Methylene blue (pharmaceutical grade)
Tier 4 — risky / avoid · Nootropic · Mitochondrial · Anti-aging
Methylene blue is a prescription drug for methemoglobinaemia and some toxicities, not a dietary supplement. Low oral doses are sold online as a mitochondrial nootropic. Human cognitive evidence is thin. It is a potent MAO-A inhibitor. Combined with SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclics, MAOIs, tramadol, triptans, St John’s wort, or 5-HTP it can cause serotonin syndrome, which has been fatal. Industrial or aquarium dye is contaminated and must never be swallowed. Urine, mouth, and clothing stain blue-green. Do not self-experiment.
Dose: Do not take methylene blue except as a medicine prescribed for you. There is no safe DIY nootropic dose.
