Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei)
Tier 3 — weak evidence · Longevity · Autophagy · Antioxidant
A Japanese plant containing DMC (4,4-dimethoxychalcone) that activates autophagy, the cellular cleanup process linked to longevity. A 2024 study identified DMC as a potent autophagy inducer in human cells. Consumed as a vegetable in Japan for centuries with a strong traditional safety record. Supplement-specific human trials are essentially nonexistent. An interesting emerging longevity candidate.
Dose: 500–1,500 mg/day ashitaba leaf powder; contains autophagy-inducing DMC; no human supplement trials yet
