Usnic acid (weight loss)
Tier 4 — risky / avoid · Hepatotoxicity · Mitochondrial uncoupling
A lichen-derived compound marketed for fat loss, but extremely dangerous. Multiple reports of acute liver failure have been documented, including cases requiring liver transplant and at least one death. FDA issued warnings back in 2001. There is no trial evidence that it even works for weight loss. No safe dose has been established.
Dose: AVOID — no safe dose established; severe hepatotoxicity risk
