Desiccated animal thyroid glands sold as supplements. Contain actual thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) in unpredictable amounts. Multiple cases of thyrotoxicosis have been reported — symptoms include rapid heartbeat, tremor, anxiety, and potentially fatal thyroid storm. Thyroid hormones must only be prescribed and dosed by a physician.
