Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG

Tier 1 — strong evidence · Gut · IBS · Pediatric diarrhoea

LGG (Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG) is the most extensively studied bacterial probiotic strain. Szajewska & Hojsak 2020 (PMID 32059116), synthesising 13 meta-analyses, 3 systematic reviews, and 15 RCTs, confirms LGG prevents antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and shortens acute gastroenteritis in children, particularly in Europe. Waitzberg 2024 (PMID 38286962) confirms its strain-specific efficacy for AAD in both children and adults alongside S. boulardii CNCM I-745. Guarino 2015 (PMID 26447963) lists LGG and S. boulardii as the two strains with the broadest diarrhoeal evidence. Evidence…
