Iberogast (STW 5)

Tier 2 — promising · Functional dyspepsia · Multi-herb · German RCT

Standardised liquid extract of nine herbs (bitter candytuft, angelica, chamomile, caraway, milk thistle, lemon balm, peppermint, celandine, liquorice). Multiple RCTs in functional dyspepsia and IBS show effect comparable to over-the-counter prokinetics. The original STW 5 formula was reformulated in 2020 (STW 5-II) to remove celandine and liquorice after rare hepatotoxicity case reports — choose products containing the new formulation if available. Avoid in cholestatic liver disease.

Dose: 20 drops TID before meals (8 weeks)
