Promoted as a cancer cachexia treatment since the 1970s. Three large NCI-sponsored RCTs found no benefit and showed increased toxicity vs placebo. Known hepatotoxin and neurotoxin. Has extremely dangerous interactions with tyramine-containing foods and many medications. Has contributed to patient deaths. No legitimate therapeutic use.
