Essential oils (oral, general)

Tier 4 — risky / avoid · Various claims · Safety concerns

Only enteric-coated peppermint oil has clinical evidence for a health benefit, specifically for IBS symptoms. All other oral essential oils lack trial evidence and carry real risks of stomach irritation, liver damage, and drug interactions. Taking undiluted essential oils by mouth can burn your esophagus and stomach lining. Avoid oral ingestion.
