2,4-Dinitrophenol (DNP)

An industrial chemical that uncouples oxidative phosphorylation, dramatically increasing metabolic rate and body temperature. There is NO safe dose margin — the lethal dose overlaps with the "effective" dose. Death occurs from uncontrollable hyperthermia when body temperature exceeds 40 degrees. Over 60 deaths documented in the literature. No antidote exists. FDA banned it in 1938 after multiple deaths.
