Supplements by age for men over 40 and 50

Men in their 40s and 50s are sold testosterone boosters and prostate blends. This page does not review those products. The trial evidence we re-read that actually splits or includes men is about creatine and training.

40s

Kazeminasab 2025 found leg press, squat, vertical jump, and Wingate peak power gains in the male subgroup of a creatine review, and not in the female subgroup (PMID 40944139). Overall bench press was 1.43 kg and squat 5.64 kg versus placebo, across ages. That is a training supplement, not a midlife hormone treatment. One author has advised creatine companies.

50s

Chilibeck 2017 pooled older adults, men and women, mean ages 57 to 70, and found 1.37 kg more lean tissue with creatine plus lifting (PMID 29138605). It is not a men-only result. Kidney and hair questions are on the side-effects page. People with kidney disease were not the population in those reviews. A kidney page says what not to expect from a cleanse.

Questions people ask

What should men over 40 or 50 take?

If the goal is strength with lifting, creatine has male and mixed older-adult data. This page does not recommend a testosterone or prostate stack.

Does creatine damage kidneys after 50?

Reviews show a creatinine rise on the blood test and no clear filtration change. They are not trials in people who already have kidney disease.
