What it is
The NIH-funded PIVENS trial found 800 IU/day significantly improved liver histology in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NASH). Use mixed tocopherols (not just alpha-tocopherol alone) for general antioxidant purposes. Cochrane meta-analysis found doses above 400 IU/day associated with modestly increased all-cause mortality — high-dose use requires medical supervision.
