Tributyrin (gut barrier, targeted)

Gut barrier · IBS · Microbiome support
Tier 2 — Promising

What it is

Tributyrin delivers butyric acid directly to the intestinal epithelium where it fuels colonocytes and maintains tight junctions. Unlike sodium butyrate, tributyrin is odourless and survives gastric acid. Small pilot trials (Banasiewicz 2013 and others) suggest tributyrin improves gut permeability markers and bowel symptoms in IBS-D and IBD patients. Also being studied for colorectal cancer prevention.
