What it is

Affron® is a standardised saffron extract (≥3.5% Lepticrosalides) developed by Pharmactive Biotech. Multiple RCTs at 28 mg/day support efficacy in mild-moderate depression and anxiety, with effect sizes comparable to standalone saffron. The 2025 Cheng NMA (PMID 40314175) ranks saffron monotherapies among the most effective nutraceuticals for depression (SMD 0.69 vs antidepressants). Caution with SSRI, MAOI, tramadol — additive serotonin syndrome risk.
