Potassium supplementation (clinical)

Blood pressure · Cardiovascular · Electrolyte
Tier 1 — Strong Evidence

What it is

WHO recommends adults consume at least 3,510 mg/day potassium. A 2024 meta-analysis of 32 trials confirmed supplementation reduces systolic blood pressure by 4.5 mmHg in hypertensive adults. The DASH diet, rich in potassium, is a cornerstone of hypertension management. Dangerous in kidney disease — always check renal function before supplementing. Balances sodium for cardiovascular protection.
