Pelargonium sidoides (Umckaloabo)

Acute bronchitis · Cold · Respiratory
Tier 2 — Promising

What it is

A South African plant extract with strong Cochrane-level evidence for acute bronchitis. The Timmer et al. 2013 Cochrane review (8 trials) found it significantly reduces symptom severity and duration of acute bronchitis and the common cold compared to placebo. Works best when started within the first 48 hours of symptoms. Generally well tolerated for short-term use of 7 to 10 days. Not for daily prevention, only acute illness.
