Mucuna pruriens (velvet bean)

Dopamine precursor · Mood · Movement
Tier 3 — Trending

What it is

Tropical legume whose seeds naturally contain L-DOPA, the immediate precursor to dopamine. Standardised extracts (typically 15–30% L-DOPA) have small clinical trials for early Parkinson disease symptoms and short-term mood / motivation effects in healthy adults. The natural-source L-DOPA is paired with native cofactors that may give a smoother pharmacokinetic profile than synthetic levodopa, but it is not a substitute for prescription Parkinson care. Caution alongside MAO-inhibitors and any dopaminergic medication.
