Magnolia bark (honokiol + magnolol)

What it is

Contains two potent bioactive compounds, honokiol and magnolol, that activate GABA receptors similarly to benzodiazepines but without addiction potential. Clinical trials show significant anxiety reduction and improved sleep quality. Also modestly lowers cortisol. Commonly combined with ashwagandha or L-theanine in sleep formulas. Generally well tolerated at recommended doses.

200–400 mg/day bark extract standardised to 2% honokiol + magnolol; take in evening for sleep

Time of day & tips

Take 30–60 min before bed with water. Avoid combining with alcohol or sedative medications. Works well alongside L-theanine or ashwagandha.
