What it is

A naturally occurring amino acid found in mushrooms that your body actively transports into cells via a dedicated transporter, suggesting it plays an important biological role. People with higher blood ergothioneine levels have lower rates of cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline in observational studies. However, no interventional human trials have confirmed a causal benefit from supplements. Found naturally in mushrooms, especially king oyster.
