Black seed oil (Nigella sativa)
What it is
Multiple 2024–2025 reviews confirm it modestly lowers blood sugar, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure. Active compound thymoquinone has anti-inflammatory properties. Most supporting trials are small and short-term — treat effect sizes cautiously. Caution: enhances blood pressure and diabetes medications. Use cold-pressed oil only — do not heat. Safety beyond 3 months is limited.
Dose
1–3 g/day cold-pressed oil or 500 mg standardised extract; do not heat; monitor BP if on antihypertensives
Time of day & tips
Take with food. Never heat the oil — use it cold only. If on blood pressure medication, monitor BP regularly as effects are additive. Refrigerate after opening.
